The Challenge: Non-Functioning Point-Watch System
The vessel’s point-watch system had lost network connectivity. This critical monitoring system needed immediate restoration to maintain operational safety and efficiency. The original scope called for installing two new cable runs from the kitchen location up to the aft lounge near the access point (AP) in the center of the room.

- Two network cable runs (primary and backup)
- Routing cables
- Full connectivity testing for both cables
- Preparation for a mini flex switch installation in the lounge ceiling
- Compliance with Coast Guard fire penetration regulations
- Coordination with MARSEC security protocols and vessel personnel
The Solution: Cable Recovery and Re-routing
Upon arrival of our onsite IT support in Brunswich, GA, they assessed the existing infrastructure. Working collaboratively with the vessel’s point of contact, they spent approximately two hours systematically tracking down the original cable connection. This detective work involved:
- Toning and testing the original cable infrastructure

The team successfully found the original cable, verified its integrity through continuity testing on all pairs, and determined it could be restored. Instead of running entirely new cables, they were able to re-route the existing cable from one network rack to the main network rack, restoring full connectivity to the point-watch system.
